Leap Year. The Ladies Turn to Propose!

Feb 27, 2020

Hi Ladies! Just a reminder it’s leap year!!!

Your day is coming! 29/02/2020, the time of the proposal!!

Have you been wanting your man to propose, is it the right time, do you have your wedding planned already in Pinterest??? If the answer to all these is yes maybe it is your time to pop the question!

A little background on leap year proposals.
One tradition we are going to give you more information on is the age old tradition dating back to Ireland, you will see why at the end!

Saint Brigid of Kildare had asked Saint Patrick for permission for women to be allowed to propose to their suitors. Saint Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland. The Patron Saint some of us dress up for in green clothes and drink Guinness on St Patrick’s Day. Saint Brigid had asked because there were many complaints from women that men were not proposing. The main reason being that they were too shy to ask. Initially, he allowed women to propose once every seven years but Brigid fought back and asked for every leap year!
Brigid got her way and when the law changed and women could propose every Leap Year, Brigid got down on one knee herself and proposed to Saint Patrick. However, he said No! Legend has it he bent over and kissed her on the cheek and let her down gently, also offering her a silk gown to make her feel better.

So ladies something else you may not know ~ due to Saint Patrick’s gesture, another Irish tradition, dictates that any man refusing a woman’s leap-year proposal must give her a silk gown ~ so we think bringing it in to the 21st century a new outfit with matching jewellery, shoes and bag will suffice!! Don’t you agree?

So that is a little background on leap year proposals, one of the age old traditions originating from Ireland.

If you are serious about asking your man’s hand in marriage, then here is your chance. That being said it is only a few days away 😉

Good Luck Ladies
